Along with giving tours, docents have also taken tickets for exhibitions, assisted with special events, and even provided musical entertainment for such occasions.
All docents need to take a BYU course which trains them to lead tours. The course meets Thursday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. Once trained, docents provide exhibition tours at the museum during fall and winter semesters.
If you are interested in joining this program or would like more information, please contact our docent scheduler at (801) 422-1140.
The Museum of Art provides a wide range of internships for students interested in pursuing a museum-related career. Interns are assigned to work in our curatorial, education, communications, or design department for a four-month assignment. (Intern responsibilities are detailed in the internship application. See link below.)
An internship at the MOA provides students with an in-depth look into the museum world. Our interns work closely with museum staff in planning exhibitions, mounting artwork, marketing current exhibits, and drawing up lesson plans. At the close of their work, our interns are equipped with practical experience that gives them a foothold into graduate school or a museum career.
Interns work 12 hours a week for 3 hours of course credit. To apply for an MOA internship please download the application by clicking on the link below. Email or turn in your completed application by October 30, 2009, to the Internship Coordinator - Herman DuToit (herman_dutoit@byu.edu or 378A MOA) to be considered for an internship during Winter 2009/2010. Please direct any internship related questions to Herman DuToit at (801) 422-8289.
