Brain O’Doherty, also known as Patrick Ireland, is an artist writer and filmmaker. His distinctive installations of colored rope and painted surfaces exploit the spatial and optical properties of conventional gallery space and change the traditional exhibition format. O’Doherty’s work has been shown in numerous galleries in the United States and Europe. He is also the author of several influential writings including Inside the White Cube (1986), which presented a new interpretation of modernist exhibition aesthetics.
