Artwork of the Week: Jan 26
The Pool of Siloam was a fresh water pool where Jewish pilgrims performed ritual purification cleansings before heading up to the temple. In the background, high on the mount, you see the temple bathed in the sun and awaiting visitors.
The Pool of Siloam might have been a place that this blind man knew well. In this painting he is one of the crowd here at the water’s edge, hoping, thinking, waiting and praying. However, in a coming day he will be asked by a man named Jesus to wash mud from his eyes in this water and after a lifetime of darkness, he will see. Not only will this blind man gain his vision, but in defending his Healer in the presence of the contentious religious leaders of the day, he will find a new life in his Savior, Jesus Christ.
