JULY 5, 2007—JANUARY 1, 2008

This exhibition at the Brigham Young University Museum of Art illustrates the evolution of ballet from eighteenth-century European court dances through the early nineteenth-century romantic ballets to the arrival of the art form in America in the 1860s. The exhibition features 65 prints and 33 objects d’art from the remarkable private collection of BYU faculty members Madison and Debra Sowell. Their fine-art prints, figurines, posters, and other memorabilia give a vivid and nostalgic picture of the popular enthusiasm surrounding the development of this very special kind of dance.
