JULY 1-OCTOBER 29, 2011

This exhibition features 59 masterpieces of American painting by well-known artists from the 1700s to the 21stcentury. On loan from the New Britain Museum of American art in Connecticut, the paintings portray and define the Yankee spirit.

Visitors will see paintings by such notable artists as Winslow Homer, James McNeil Whistler, John Singer Sargent, Georgia O’Keeffe, John Singleton Copley, Thomas Hart Benton, Thomas Moran, Maxfileld Parrish, and Norman Rockwell from the New Britain Museum, the first museum in the country devoted solely to collecting and exhibiting American art. Museum visitors will be able to experience a survey of American art in a single setting as they contemplate what it means to be an American and what it means to be a Yankee.
