Ron Richmond "Exchange no. 8"

Ron Richmond (b.1963), Exchange No. 8, 2004, oil on canvas, 60 1/8 x 60 1/8 inches. Brigham Young University Museum of Art, purchased with funds provided by Lewis and Gail Burnham.

Ron Richmond’s paintings present everyday objects in symbolic arrangements, the significance of which is left to the viewer to unravel. Thus his paintings create an opportunity to meditate on sacred topics and find personal meaning in his quiet compositions. At a time of year when Christians all over the world contemplate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Exchange No. 8 reminds viewers that their relationship with the divine is as personal and individual as the meanings they distill from communing with spiritual symbols and sacred artworks.
