On this day in 1959, Hawaii became the 50th state—the most recent state to enter the Union. Hawaii is the only state that is not in North America. This oil piece by F. E. Weberg depicts the beautiful coastal landscape of the island of Oahu, in Laie. Laie is the site of the Laie Hawaii Temple and Brigham Young University-Hawaii.
