Mahonri M. Young (1877-1957), Adam After Michelangelo, c.1925, crayon, 11 11/16 x 16 7/8 inches. Brigham Young University Museum of Art, purchase/gift of the Mahonri M. Young Estate, 1959.

 

On this day in 1483, the first Mass was held in the Sistine Chapel, in the Vatican City. This piece is a study of the figure of Adam from Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam, featured on the famed Sistine Chapel ceiling.
