In MOA Artwork of the Week

Arthur Hill Gilbert, Glimpse of Hollywood Hills, oil on canvas on panel, 12 x 14 inches. Brigham Young University Museum of Art, gift of A. Merlin Steed and Alice W. Steed Collection.

On this day in 1923, the original “HOLLYWOODLAND” sign was officially completed. Today, the signs has been restored and now reads “HOLLYWOOD,” in line with the 1949 renovation. This painting by Arthur Hill Gilbert shows the beauty of the Santa Monica Mountains in California, the same general location where the sign is today.
