Robert Walter Weir (1803-1889),

American artist Robert Walter Weir was born on this day in 1803. Weir began drawing in the 1820s and traveled to study the masters in Italy. When he returned, he taught art and in the 1830s, he was appointed as Professor of Drawing at West Point Academy and taught many future American Civil War leaders.
