Today is the Summer Solstice, the first day of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere, today marks the Winter Solstice. The first day of Summer is also the longest day of the year, with some of the northernmost parts of the world receiving a full 24 hours of sunlight.

Today’s Artwork of the Day by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema is entitled Summer Offering, showcasing the painterly skill of the artist as he depicts women presenting the beautiful flowers of the season.
