Flemish Baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens was born on this day in 1577. Known for his sumptuous figures and bold movement within his pieces, Rubens painted approximately 1,400 paintings in his lifetime. Perhaps his most famous collection of work is the Medici cycle, commissioned by Marie de’ Medici in 1621. Today's Artwork of the Day by Alfred Jacob Miller is a study of one of Ruben's pieces in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
