On this day in 1781, the Battle of Yorktown in the American Revolutionary War finished with a victory by the US Continental Army. British General George Cornwallis surrendered and the war ended. Lore suggests that as the British army left the battlefield, they played the folk song 'The World Turned Upside Down.'
