In his famous images, M.C. Escher often challenged perceptions of reality. How can a few simple lines fool the eye? How can a surface be both inside and outside or both convex and concave? How does one evoke the feeling of infinity?

Escher would rarely be inspired by his surroundings but rather by the many ideas he was trying to work out in his mind: duality, mirror images, multiple dimensions, relativities, infinity, impossible constructions, to name a few.
