Childe Hassam (1859-1935),

September Sky, 1907, watercolor, 9 15/16 x 13 7/8 inches. Brigham Young University Museum of Art, gift of Dr. and Mrs. Claude R. Thomas, 1973.

This watercolor by American Impressionist painter Childe Hassam celebrates the arrival of September, a month of transition, new beginnings, and, as demonstrated by Hassam's piece, beautiful landscapes. Hassam lived in New England for most of his life; this piece likely is a scene of rolling hills in that area of the country.
