Jack Beauchamp, Old Faithful, Yellowstone, c.1940, serigraph, 5 7/8 x 3 15/16 inches. Brigham Young University Museum of Art.

On this day in 1870, an explorer named Henry D. Washburn named Old Faithful geyser. It was so named for the geyser’s reliable spouting every 75-90 minutes. This same reliability remains today.
