Minerva Teichert (1888-1976), Love Story, 1949-1951, oil on masonite, 36 x 48 inches. Brigham Young University Museum of Art, 1969.
Minerva Teichert’s Book of Mormon series includes several imaginative portrayals of stories mentioned, but not elaborated within scripture. Here, she portrays the pairing of Ishmael’s daughters and the sons of Lehi as a lively courtship. While the text says little of these marriages, implying perhaps relationships of necessity, Teichert provides a happy atmosphere of romance and celebration.
