Edwin Evans (1860 - 1946), ‘Emigration Canyon,’ no date, oil on canvas board, 24 x 30 inches. Brigham Young University Museum of Art, gift of Gilbert and Karen Beyer in memory of Phyllis Perry Linschoten, granddaughter of Edwin Evans, 2000.

This autumnal scene of Emigration Canyon shows the beauty of the fall season in the state of Utah. Born in Lehi, Evans was an important early Utah landscape painter. He was trained by pioneer painters Dan Weggeland, and George O. Ottinger, and later was called on an LDS art mission to Paris, France. Upon his return, he helped paint the temple murals for the Salt Lake and Alberta temples.
