Maynard Dixon (1875-1946), Lazy Autumn
Maynard Dixon (1875-1946), 'Lazy Autumn,' 1943, oil on canvas, 25 3/8 x 30 inches. Brigham Young University Museum of Art, gift of Gene L. Jones & Anna Smith, 1981.

The painting depicts the southern Utah landscape along the Virgin River near Dixon’s home, where he spent much of his later years. Dixon had profound respect for Indigenous peoples of the southwest, and painted images of their lives, their personalities, and their landscape.

This painting is currently on exhibition at the MOA in Maynard Dixon: Searching for a Home, Painted and Poetic Imagination in the American West.
