The Woman with the Pear (III/IV), 1651, etching and drypoint, 5 11/16 x 4 11/16 inches. Brigham Young University Museum of Art, purchase/gift of the Mahonri M. Young Estate, 1959.

Dutch artist Ferdinand Bol died on this day in 1680. Bol is best remembered for his paintings of historical subjects and his portraiture. Today's Artwork of the Day,

The Woman with the Pear, is an example of this portraiture. Bol's style was influenced by Rembrandt, another Dutch artist of the time.
