Rembrandt (1606-1669), The Descent from the Cross: Sketch (1/1), 1642, etching and drypoint, 5 13/16 x 4 9/16 inches. Brigham Young University Museum of Art, purchase/gift of the Mahonri M. Young Estate.
Today is the Christian Feast Day of Nicodemus. Nicodemus is mentioned a few times in the New Testament, perhaps most notably as one who helped take Christ’s body from the cross.

“And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.

Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.”

— John 19:39-40
