Sabine Sketch After David, Mahonri Young

Mahonri M. Young (1877-1957),

Sabine Sketch After David, colored pencil, 8 7/16 x 10 15/16 inches. Brigham Young University Museum of Art, purchase/gift of the Mahonri M. Young Estate.

French artist and leader of the Neoclassical era, Jacques-Louis David, was born on this day in 1748. David's style marked a major shift from the frivolity and excess of the Rococo era, ushering in the clean lines and echoes of antiquity that characterize the Neoclassical style. Today's Artwork of the Day by Mahonri Young is a sketch done after David's large-scale painting

The Intervention of the Sabine Women, which is housed in the Louvre.
