Dr. Christensen will share his professional insights on the various paintings in the exhibition by Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida, "the Spanish impressionist." About the Speaker:
Dr. Micah Christensen is a scholar of European and American fine art. He earned his Masters of Fine Art from Sotheby’s Institute (London), where he worked in several royal, private, and public collections. His Masters dissertation explored the life and work of the Spanish painter Joaquín Sorolla.
For his doctoral thesis, Madrid, Rome, Paris: The Education Nineteenth-Century Artists, Micah spent ten years in more than 40 museums and archives in France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, and United States to research the classroom practice and patronage of artists. He subsequently lectured on the subject throughout Europe, including at the British Library and for Cambridge University.
Considered an expert in training of artists in the classical tradition, Micah educates artists pertaining to the role and functions of the arts, also bringing with him practical knowledge in the contemporary scene. He maintains strong ties with artists and collectors through public lectures, curating exhibitions, and judging art contests. Micah regularly consults with contemporary painters and sculptors in order to reestablish lost techniques. In 2017 Micah was awarded "Advocate of the Arts" by the Inspirational Art Association.
Christensen works with public and private collections as an art consultant and partner of Anthony's Antiques and Fine Art. He sits on the Board of the Springville Museum of Art, the Utah Institute of Classical Art & Architecture, and the Beaux-Arts Academy. He has written for Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine and is on the Advisory Board of Plein Air Magazine.
