About the Presenter
Dr. Steven Bule is professor emeritus of Art and Architecture History at Utah Valley University, where he served as department chair of Art and Visual Communications, Associate Dean of the School of the Arts, and directed seventeen study abroad programs to Italy. He completed a double B.A. in Art History and Italian at BYU in 1976. In 1987, his received his PhD. in Art History from Ohio State University (studying under the supervision of Frank Richardson), emphasizing Italian Renaissance art as his major field with Southern Baroque and Greek, Etruscan, and Roman Art and Architecture as minor fields. From 1984 to 1998, Dr. Bule taught Art History at BYU where he created and directed the Art History M.A. degree. He was the first BYU faculty member to twice be awarded the Alcuin Award for excellence in general education teaching. Dr. Bule’s publications have focused on Renaissance sculptor Matteo Civitali, the art of Lucca, and Sutcliffe Maudsley, an early LDS portrait painter active in Nauvoo.
