Writer Ernest Hemingway was born on this day in 1899. Hemingway is known for his to-the-point voice in his work, which includes several novels and short stories. His works are often considered American classics are widely read and studied. Hemingway was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954.

His first novel, the semi-autobiographical The Sun Also Rises is set in Pamplona, Spain, as a group of British and American expatriates travel from Paris to Spain to watch the bullfights and the Running of the Bulls.
