Alexander Calder (Attr.),

American Flag, No. 67/100, no date, lithograph, 31 ¾ x 23 7/8 inches. Brigham Young University Museum of Art, gift of R. Reed and Dorothy Fife Family, 2010.

Today is Independence Day in the United States, often called The Fourth of July, commemorating the day in 1776 that the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence and officially declared the colonies separated from Great Britain. This piece by Alexander Calder is infused with American spirit as people excitedly carry the American flag in celebration.
