Marian Wardle to Give Lecture

Don't miss Curator of American Art Marian Wardle's lecture tomorrow, January 19, at 7:00pm in the MOA Auditorium titled Not All Pioneers Went West: American Artists and Their Transatlantic Adventures. Throughout the 19th century, American artists and art students, whose ancestors had come from Europe, went to Europe for the first time. They went to study art and learn from the great masters. Torn between American patriotism and the need to study art in Europe, their works express their conflicted attitudes. Chief among these young artists were Robert Weir and his sons John and Julian, whose transatlantic sojourns spanned the century. They imported European art styles and teaching methods and helped spread them across America.
