Today in 1810, Crown Prince Ludwig (later King Ludwig I of Bavaria) married Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. Citizen of Munich were invited to participate in the festivities on the fairground outside the city. This festival became an annual occurrence, turning into what is celebrated today as Oktoberfest.
