Edwin Evans (1860-1946),
Summer Shadows Mountain, oil on canvasboard, 15 x 18 inches. Brigham Young University Museum of Art, 1941.
Today's artwork of the day is a highlight from the MOA Collection by American artist Edwin Evans. Evans was an artist from Utah who was one of the few 'art missionaries' that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called to Paris to study art. Read more about these art missionaries here. Evans created murals for the Salt Lake City and Cardston Alberta temples. He also taught at the University of Utah for many years. This piece depicts the majesty of the Utah Rocky Mountains in the late summer, as the snow has melted from the peaks and the desert landscape can be seen in clearly below.
