American artist Charles Dana Gibson was born on this day in 1867. Gibson, a graphic artist and illustrator, created mainly ink sketches and graphic posters. He is the most well-known for the creation of the 'Gibson Girl,' the illustrated personification of the ideal American woman at the turn of the 20th century. Gibson published several pieces in magazines and other publications including
Life and
