Please join us for the interdisciplinary symposium, Transactions: Transnationalism and the Formation of American Culture that will be held at the BYU Museum of Art on Friday and Saturday, January 27 and 28, 2012. The symposium will showcase current scholarship investigating the important role that cross currents of cultural influence played in shaping transatlantic art sensibilities during the long nineteenth century (1780 -1920). The Transactions Symposium will be held in conjunction with the exhibition The Weir Family, 1820 -1920: Expanding the Traditions of American Art that opened at the Brigham Young University Museum of Art on November 18, 2011, showcasing the work of the three New York and Connecticut painters: Robert Walter Weir (1803 -1889) and his two sons John Ferguson Weir (1841 -1926) and Julian Alden Weir (1852 -1919). The exhibition will travel to two other museums and will be accompanied by a catalogue published by The University Press of New England. Selected symposium papers will be published in hard copy or online. See http://meettheweirs.byu.edu/symposium/ for more information. Register online Symposium schedule Link to Newsletter version
