ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Through sculpture, performance, and video, Courtney Kessel strives to make visible the quiet, understated, and often unseen love and labor of motherhood. Her video performances are repetitive, performative, and mundane; but the seemingly endless, sometimes awkward efforts accrue deeper meaning through the accumulation of these nuanced actions. Her work manifests as a form of umbilical cord between mother and child that expresses their intimate connectedness despite physical separation.
