Shaping America Exhibition Opening March 22
Tonight, at 7:00 p.m. the MOA celebrates the reinstallation of its permanent American art collection in a new exhibition, entitled Shaping America. This exhibition will examine American identity, emphasizing the multicultural perspective intrinsic to the American experience. The display of approximately 80 works of art, including paintings, sculptures, and photographs, will inspire visitors to reflect on artwork's role in revealing and contributing to cross-cultural encounters and exchanges that form American identity. Spirited First Friday in March
Hundreds attended March's First Fridays event featuring the current exhibition, People in a Hard Land: Iconic Images of Life in the Southwest. The event included southwest-inspired food, art, music, cowboy poetry and dance. The 11 recently acquired Minerva Teichert paintings were also highlighted, as actress Anna Hargadon played the role of Teichert, entertaining listeners with stories from her life and work. Crowds gathered in the Lied Gallery for performances by the Living Legends dancers and Cowboy Poet Tyler Guy and the Buckaroo Balladeers. The current southwest exhibition will be open through April 13, 2013.
