Join the cast of BYU's upcoming production of House of Desires for a sneak peek at a scene from the play, followed by a discussion with the show's dramaturg Shelley Graham and MOA Educator Philipp Malzl. Like many of the artworks in the exhibition Spain and the Hispanic World, House of Desires was written and is set during Spain's Siglo de Oro, or Golden Age. In this free and open-to-all event, Shelley and Philipp will discuss the connections between the play and the exhibition and answer questions from those in attendance.
About 'House of Desires':
This Spanish Golden Age romantic farce is a wild tale of confusion and mistaken identity complete with wily servants and witless nobles. In a new, critically acclaimed adaptation, The House of Desires examines the agency of women in a time when they were subject to strict moral codes, in both religion and society.
Playing at the West Campus Studio Theatre, March 15–16, 19–23, 26–30
Written by Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, adapted by Catherine Boyle, directed by Adam Houghton
The sneak peek at the MOA is free and open to all, and pre-registration is not required. Get tickets to the full performance here.
