Joshua Meyer: Eight Approaches

October 3, 2024 - January 18, 2025

An eight-panel work of both abstract and figurative shapes in hues of black, gold, and orange

Hanukkah is the story of the oil that’s found in the desecrated temple. But will it last?
Joshua Meyer

As the sun sets on December 25, menorahs across the world will begin to be lit to mark the commencement of Hanukkah. In his work Eight Approaches, contemporary artist Joshua Meyer invites viewers to take part in this celebration of hope, renewal, and miraculous abundance as they explore Judaic perspectives on light and time.

We are thrilled to announce that Eight Approaches is now on display at the Museum of Art through January. This abstract and figurative work of eight panels mirrors the nine-pronged menorah candelabra, with the viewer standing in as the ninth, central candle. Those who interact with it will gain a greater appreciation and reverence for the symbols, rituals, and teachings of this sacred annual tradition.
