Auguste Rodin (1840-1917), Burgher of Calais—Head Study, bronze, 2 3/8 x 2 1/8 x 2 3/8 inches. Brigham Young University Museum of Art, purchase/gift of the Mahonri M. Young Estate.

 

French sculptor Auguste Rodin was born on this day 1840. He is one of the most famous sculptors in art history, and is considered the father of modern sculpture.
