Position Title: Museum of Art Student Educator
Reports to: MOA Education Department Supervisor
Hours: 16-20 hours per week

Summary of Position:

A student working in the Education Department at the BYU Museum of Art is primarily responsible for assisting in the research and development of education materials and strategies for MOA exhibitions. MOA education student employees regularly provide exhibition tours and teach K-12 and community groups about art. Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Facilitating audience research and monitoring tour statistics
  • Staffing the Front Desk and greeting patrons
  • Planning and facilitating MOA public programs, including:
    • Exhibition openings
    • Professional development for K-12 educators
    • Lectures and symposia
    • Docent trainings
    • New Student Orientation
    • Special events
Qualifications:

All applicants for this position must:

  • Currently be enrolled at Brigham Young University and working towards an under-graduate or Master’s degree in Art History, Art Education, Visual Arts, Humanities, Early Childhood Education, or other related fields that have foster skills and interests in art, art history, museums, and working with children.
  • Have the interpersonal skills to engage harmoniously with all ages of museum patrons and generate good will among docents and staff
  • Possess the flexibility to adapt to the often unforeseen circumstances of public programing
  • Have the ability to effectively communicate ideas to others with insight and enthusiasm
  • Be willing to work independently, with attention to detail
  • Commit to a minimum of one full calendar year of employment

For the interview, you will need to prepare a mock tour for two pieces in Crossing the Divide: American Art from the Permanent Collection, spending about 5 minutes per work and presenting the works to us as if we were 5th graders. Please include an introduction and conclusion to your mock tour. Strive to facilitate an engaging, interactive, and informative experience.
