MOA Pays Tribute to Retiree Dawn Pheysey

October 16, 2014
Our friend and colleague, Curator of Religious Art Dawn Pheysey, has retired after devoting more than twenty-two years to the Museum of Art and its collections. Her unflinching dedication and stellar accomplishments will continue to have far-reaching impact on the MOA—its programs, exhibitions, personnel, and patrons. Dawn received her MA in Art History and Curatorial Studies from BYU in 1991, which also marked the inception of her career as Curator over Works on Paper. Dawn began the monumental task of organizing and accessioning over 10,000 prints, drawings, watercolors, pastels, etc. and applying rigorous museum industry standards to their storage and conservation. Furthermore, she played a vital role in helping to establish the fledging MOA as a “beautiful jewel” on campus (attribution made by President Gordon B. Hinckley at the MOA

'The community reached out to us so much more than we expected, and their enthusiasm was inspiring,' said Carrigan, a senior at BYU majoring in Art History & Curatorial Studies. 'Large church groups started coming out of the woodwork, and we saw a mass and variety of individuals, friends, and families spanning as many as three generations signing up to help.' Schoenstadt's 3D wall drawing,
